Hotel Barceló Santiago, Puerto Santiago, Tenerife

Buzz trips opinion
Fronted by the neighbouring Canary Island of La Gomera which provides the stage for the sun’s nightly adieu performance, and occupying the best seats on the island for views of the monolithic cliffs of Los Gigantes, when it comes to fabulous Tenerife coastal vistas, the four star Hotel Barceló Santiago holds pole position.

Bright, clean and über stylish for its price bracket, the Hotel Barceló Santiago is one of the friendliest hotels I’ve ever stayed in and the staff are universally efficient and warmly welcoming. Sitting on a small promontory in between Los Gigantes and the west coast resorts of Playa de la Arena and Alcalá, this is one of Tenerife‘s sunniest spots and the Hotel Barceló Santiago affords a beautiful platform on which to take full advantage of that fact. Sun, sea and stunning views are the order of the day.

Rooms:
Soft pastel shades of blue in the contemporary furnishings and wide, open spaces reflect nature’s colour palette and take full advantage of the location’s unique light. Recently refurbished to a good standard, the rooms are chic and sexy with beds big enough to travel the globe in your dreams, large terraces with those views and opaque glass en suites which make for some interesting impromptu shadow dancing at shower time. Annoyingly, the coat hangers are too wide for the wardrobe, a minor point but a frustrating one which could so easily be fixed.

Facilities:
With the surrounding scenery setting the standard, the Hotel Barceló Santiago rises to the style challenge beautifully. The infinity pool and grounds have a tranquil, tropical cool worthy of the resplendent views they face with oodles of sun bathing terraces to send your decision making skills into dither mode. Food at the hotel wasn’t award winning standard when Buzz Trips was there but was perfectly acceptable and offered a wide range of fresh daily specials from which to chose. The Sabor Español a la carte tasca offers a more authentic setting at not much more money. Free WiFi is available in the lobby.

The spa looked fabulous but unfortunately I didn’t have time to try it out when I was there – I’ll be back to rectify that.

Hotel Barceló Santiago prices are from €120 per night for double room and breakfast

  1. I stayed here with my sister, really agree for the money it’s spot on. The views over to La Gomera and Los Gigantes are out of this world. I liked all the glass round the pool area, felt like you were floating on the sea as you looked out. Food wasn’t that special when we were there either, but you always need to compare price with quality. So we weren’t at all put out by what was on offer.
