I’m a big fan of chorizos – I love to see them hanging from the ceiling in food shops and atmospheric tapas bars. I like them even better when they’re in my mouth having been fried in savoury stews, served sliced with Manchego cheese, chopped up in salads…whatever. The sight of them hanging in meaty strings is just so quintessentially Spanish.
So I was chuffed to stumble across this shop dedicated to them and ham products in general, hence the name Rey del Jamón, near the old market in Oviedo, Asturias.
The offer of 2 kilos for only €6 is too good to resist except for one thing…the display.
Chorizos hanging in strings look great, chorizos squeezed together like this in a window display just don’t really look quite as appetising. I don’t need to go into any more detail here – a picture paints a thousand words and all that- except to add they did make me snigger in a schoolboy-ish sort of way. I loved it really.
