From the outside, Bal Hotel Spa looks like a typical top of the range out of town hotel with a slight Alpine appearance. Inside the brand spanking new décor is sleekly chic with beautifully furnished public areas that are a cross between modern colonial and African in character. It feels modern and fresh and as though it belongs in the trendy area of a happening city instead of a tranquil rural setting. It’s a style that somehow works incredibly well. After a day undertaking rural activities or exploring fishing villages it’s rather nice to return to some cool contemporary comforts.

There’s not a great amount immediately outside the front door of the Bal Hotel Spa. There’s a beach 4 km down the road if anyone fancies a short-ish walk. What is really does have going for it, apart from the fact that it’s a fab hotel, is that it’s centrally located for exploring Oviedo, Avilès and Gijón in one direction; heading into the Picos de Europa in another and taking advantage of some lovely beaches like the ones near Rubidesella and Llanes along the nearby coast.

Room
The hotel’s 45 rooms are as attractively designed as the rest of the hotel. They’re huge with all mod cons and an excellent Wi-Fi connection. There’s oodles of cupboard space and each has satellite TV, coffee making facilities, mini bar hairdryers and incredibly comfy beds. Bathrooms are immense with double sinks and walk in showers.

Facilities
Apart from it’s model good looks the hotel has some other ace cards up its sleeve. It’s bar is also a pleasantly stylish place to spend some time (you can’t always say that about hotel bars) and bar prices are remarkably good value. The Double Q restaurant is classically modern in design and serves imaginative food to match. The breakfast buffet follows suit and includes absolutely humongous sized strawberries. Possibly best of all is the über cool spa whose warm coloured lighting, clear pools and healing treatments offers the perfect antidote to giving the muscles a good old workout in the Picos de Europa

Prices are from around €80 per night for B&B and one spa session.
