Hungry to Discover Gastro-Hike Destinations

We’ve visited destinations that have blown our socks off with walking routes through landscapes that humble us thanks to the sheer scale of their beauty.

We’ve also been lucky enough to visit places where the local cuisine is of such a standard that it would have the gods nodding approval as they patted satisfyingly plump bellies.

These are not always in the same location.

Some destinations offer great walking but functional rather than outstanding food; in other places you can gorge on the finest of food but then not have any mind-blowing hiking routes that are ideal for walking off culinary overdoses.

However, every so often we touch down somewhere that manages to combine inspirational walking with gastronomy that enchants the tastebuds and smooth wines that seduce the senses.

Having been to some places recently where it was impossible to decide which wowed us the most, wonderful walking country or cuisine that captivated, we coined a phrase for these sort of special locations that tick all the right boxes in our ‘perfect trip’ wish list.

We call them Gastro-Hike Destinations.

Over the next 12 months or so we will be specifically looking for places to visit that fit our Gastro-Hike Destination tag to feature on Buzz Trips.

The first Gastro-Hike Destination is already planned and it sounds like it might set a mountain-high standard that proves difficult to top – a week learning Moro cooking with top chef Tom Ryalls that is also flavoured with some delicious walks in Las Alpujarras.

Where the second Gastro-Hike Destination will be, we haven’t decided yet. We’ve got a few ideas that could fit the bill and the World Travel Market in London next week should be the perfect place to see if these potentials have ‘the right stuff’ to be classed as Gastro-Hike Destinations.
